Veterinary Assistant

Alyssa never suspected that she would wind up in the veterinary field; she had previously planned on attending school to study neuroscience. When she and her mother switched veterinarians and started taking their cats to a feline-only clinic, Alyssa ended up applying for a job there on a whim. Little did she know that it would change her life—she quickly fell in love with the field, and she’s been a veterinary professional ever since!

Alyssa grew up in Woodbridge and began her veterinary career at the cats-only clinic as a receptionist. She joined the Animal Health Care team recently and is excited to continue her animal-care journey as a Veterinary Assistant. Alyssa even hopes to become a Certified Veterinary Technician in the near future!

Around the clinic, Alyssa enjoys grooming pets to make them as comfortable as possible. She also likes administering fluids to pets who need them. Most of all, Alyssa loves interacting one-on-one with the area’s pets and animal owners on a daily basis.

Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys shopping and spending time with her family and pets at home. She has three cats: Tad and Sweetie are brother and sister, and young Lou was rescued after wandering into a neighbor’s garage.

Veterinary Assistant

Steph has adored the company of animals ever since she was a little girl—she rescued her first kittens when she was only eight years old. For her, pet care has been a part of life for as long as she can remember. What better way to satisfy her love of animals and make a true impact in the community, Steph thought, than by becoming a veterinary professional?

Steph was raised in the suburbs of Chicago and started volunteering and shadowing at her local veterinarian’s office when she was only 15 years old. A year later, she was happy to accept a position as an employee—the experience only cemented Steph’s desire to help animals as a member of a hospital team.

After working for a number of corporate animal clinics as a Kennel Manager and a receptionist, Steph decided to look for work in a family-centered, tight-knit hospital to serve in a more hands-on manner with pets. That’s when she joined the team here at Animal Health Care—Steph has been a member of the family since May of 2016, and particularly likes making pets comfortable by improving their dermatological health.

In her time away from work, Steph is an avid horseback rider and trainer. She’s also fond of exercising, traveling around the country, and enjoying the company of her own pets at home. She has a pair of cats, Lisa and Rusty, as well as two beautiful rabbits named Cider and Shmoo. Steph and her boyfriend also own a rescued pit bull mix, Throck, who loves to lay at his owners’ feet in “protection mode” until all perceived threats are gone.

Andrea Weibler

Treasury Secretary

Andrea has been around Animal Health Care her entire life—Dr. Bishop is her father. She grew up watching her dad serve as an advocate for animals, and she knew that she would love to do the same! In total, Andrea has been helping the pets and animal owners of Naperville as a member of the hospital family for nearly 20 years.

Originally from Hinsdale, Andrea started working as a Veterinary Assistant here at the hospital shortly after graduating high school, then transitioned into reception work. She became the Office Manager in 2004 before starting as the clinic’s part-time Treasurer after the birth of her son in 2007. Her favorite part of her job is the bonds she’s been able to form with clients and pets over the years—Andrea loves getting to make lasting impacts in the lives of families every day!

At home, Andrea and her son share their lives with two parrots, Teddy and Buddy. They also have a 125-gallon saltwater fish tank. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys watching her son practice and play hockey, exercising at the gym, and completing 5ks and mud-runs with her friends and family.

Growing up with a Golden Retriever, Angelo’s early life was full of fun and excitement alongside his animal companion. He would spend hours at the park playing fetch with his best friend. These early experiences made a permanent impression—Angelo has always felt an obligation to better the lives of pets for others. He’s now able to do just that as a member of the Animal Health Care team!

Angelo grew up in Oak Lawn, Illinois. His veterinary journey began when he started shadowing at a large-animal hospital in Evergreen Park, an experience that only cemented his desire to pursue his ultimate goal: becoming a veterinarian. Angelo joined the Animal Health Care family as a Veterinary Assistant in the spring of 2017, and currently attends Saint Xavier University in Chicago to study biology.

Around the hospital, Angelo especially enjoys assisting with blood-draws and preparing samples in the lab. He’s also fond of helping with dental procedures—the challenge of scaling and polishing teeth is much harder than it appears!

When time permits between his hectic school and work schedules, Angelo enjoys staying active and working out. He loves to play basketball, sand volleyball, and softball with friends, and also likes attending as many summertime baseball games as he can.

Veterinary Assistant, Receptionist

Kara focused on a career in business management and human resources after her college years, using her skillset to help guide others toward their long-term goals. After a few years, though, she realized that she felt something was missing from her own career path. That “something” was her lifelong passion for animals! Now, Kara is proud to combine her background in management and customer service with her love for pets as a member of the Animal Health Care team.

An Illinois native, Kara’s journey began when she took the opportunity to care for and train special-needs horses at a local stable—she’s been riding horses since she was young and couldn’t pass up her chance to work hands-on with such amazing animals. It wasn’t long before she wanted to learn more about the medical side of the industry. That’s when Kara jumped headfirst into veterinary medicine and joined the Animal Health Care team as a Veterinary Assistant and receptionist!

Around the clinic, Kara enjoys completing thorough dental cleanings and educating new pet owners about proper care techniques. She’s also fond of helping new residents of the area get up to speed on preventative care measures for their beloved companions.

When Kara isn’t tending to pets’ needs here at the hospital or enjoying time on horseback, she likes playing volleyball—she even played competitive beach volleyball when she lived in Peoria!—and crafting. Along with her young newborn at home, Kara lives with two loveable cats: Amber is a tabby with extremely picky food tastes; Poe acts more like a dog than a cat, and loves to roll over for belly rubs and drop his treat bag in front of Kara to demand a tasty morsel.
