5 Things You Learn When You Get a Kitten

Are you planning to adopt a kitten soon? Have you recently welcomed a bouncing ball of fur into your home? We don’t have to tell you that baby cats are almost impossibly cute. However, little Fluffy can be quite a handful! Here, a Bolingbrook, IL vet lists some things new kitten parents quickly realize.

Those Little Claws Are Sharp

Little Fluffy will be very interested in figuring out how all of her claws and teeth work, and may try to practice on you. Ouch! Nip this habit in the bud, as otherwise you may find yourself with an aggressive cat on your hands. When your kitten scratches you, tell her ‘No’ in a firm tone of voice. You can also blow in her face. Then, just ignore her for a while.

Everything Is A Toy

Your cute little pet has lots to learn about the world. Fluffy will test pretty much everything around to find out what is fun to play with. Keep your pint-sized pet safe by removing potentially-dangerous objects. Some things to address are plastic bags, wires, and ties; small or sharp objects; chemicals; and medicine. Ask your vet for more information.

Baby Cats Are Super Frisky

As your kitty ages, she’ll pretty much continuously get lazier and calmer. However, baby cats are basically tiny, adorable little bundles of zoom. Offer your mischievous pet lots of toys, and take time to play with her daily. This adorable toddler phase won’t last long!

Kittens Fit Into Everything

When Fluffy is full grown, she won’t fit into that little space beneath the bookcase, and she’ll be easier to spot if she’s hiding. However, for now, she’ll be able to investigate some pretty small areas. Seal off spaces behind and beneath your furniture and cabinets. We also recommend keeping major appliances—like dryers and toilets—shut when not in use.

Love Purrs

Kittens are tiny, but they can quickly take up pretty big places in our hearts. Spend time with your pet, so she feels loved and safe. You may not be able to keep a smile off your face when little Fluffy snuggles up with you for a nap. A cat’s love is a truly precious thing!
